The Lighthouse assists in providing educational placement and services that are best suited for each school appropriate client. These educational services allow for academic advancement as well as adult daily life skills to help increase each school client’s independence in order to improve quality of life.
We have four schooling options for our residents that are dependent on both their cognitive and behavioral needs.
Highland Pines
Lighthouse On-Site School
- Part of the Tuscola ISD.
- This school is located on Lighthouse grounds.
- There are two classrooms.
- One classroom is for Cognitively Impaired students that are behaviorally unable to attend Highland Pines.
- The second classroom is an Emotionally Impaired classroom for students that are cognitively appropriate for the local school district (Caro Community Schools), but behaviorally are unable to be successful in the public school setting.
- The Lighthouse School cannot award diplomas but they can make recommendations for credit upon transfer to a public school setting.
- The Lighthouse School uses a Compass Learning program whose credits are accepted by our local school district, Caro.
- The Lighthouse School also has a focus on GED prep as well for students that are appropriate for that path.
- If a student is Cognitively appropriate for Caro Schools, but struggles behaviorally, our goal at the Lighthouse School is to work on behaviors so that academics can be focused on. When behavioral stability is achieved, the goal is to transition the student into Caro Schools on a slow and gradual basis to better ensure success in that setting.
